Read MoreInside Egypt’s Stranglehold on Press Freedom
During my last semester at UMD, I was enrolled in a senior journalism capstone focusing on countries with limited press/journalistic freedoms. I was not only assigned the specified country of Egypt, but was tasked to focus on the case of imprisoned journalist Ahmed al-Najdi. Najdi, who still remains in an Egyptian prison today, was a producer of a news outlet. He was arrested in 2020 on charges of spreading false news and membership in a terrorist group because of his work. He shares a cell with 20 other prisoners and is denied access to fresh air, a mattress, and medical care.
I conducted dozens of interviews and dedicated hours of research, all of which led to the final product, this article. I co-wrote this article with colleague Dylan Spilko.

Research showed multiple studies on the seriousness of cyberbullying for adolescent brains, and how to best combat cyber issues following David’s Law. Three main themes emerged from these studies, and additional recommendations/limitations are included to provide a safer cyberworld for young users.
